Stop and listen…

“I think the devil has made it his business to monopolize on three elements: noise, hurry, crowds. If he can keep us hearing radios, gossip, conversation, or even sermons, he is happy. But he will not allow quietness… Let us resist the devil in this by avoiding noise as much as we can, purposefully seeking to spend time alone, facing ourselves in the Word…Satan is aware of where we find our strength. May he not rob us!”
Jim Elliot, Shadow of the Almighty, 112-113

A friend posted this on Facebook and at a time when I desperately want to write and can’t seem to be able to focus long enough to fully capture the words…this just fits.  God, may I just rest in your presence and allow you to speak to me that you will in turn speak through the words I write.

  • This is so incredibly true, Becca. I agree that noise and just plain businesses is one of Satan’s greatest tools to draw us away from God. It takes great diligence to turn off the extraneous noise, set aside the gadgets that rob our time, and commune with God.
